Susannah Goshko, British High Commissioner to Canada
The Montreal chapter of the Ireland Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) has welcomed the appointment of Susannah Goshko to the position of the United Kingdom’s High Commissioner to Canada. Ms. Goshko joins the Deputy Head of Mission, David Reed, in leading the British consular presence in Ottawa, an important office that has always enjoyed an excellent working relationship with the ICCC.

ICCC President Paul Dunne said: “On behalf of everyone at the Chamber, I would like to welcome Ms. Goshko’s appointment as the UK’s High Commissioner to Canada. The ICCC is a body that promotes cooperation and trade between Canada and all of Ireland, including Northern Ireland, so it is important for us to work with the UK High Commission here, as well as the Embassy of Ireland, to ensure we maximize opportunities that arise for our members.

“We welcome Ms. Goshko and her family to Canada; we are looking forward to meeting her and working with her on matters of common interest. The relationship built up with the UK High Commission over the past 30 years of the ICCC in Montreal has been an important part of our success and, along with my fellow Board members, I will forge a strong continuation of that partnership in the months and years ahead.”

A career diplomat, Ms. Goshko was previously Principal Private Secretary to the British Foreign Secretary, a role that she held for two years covering the COVID-19 pandemic and the merger of the UK Foreign Office with the Department for International Development. She has spent much of her career working on national security issues and has had a number of postings in the Americas (twice in Washington D.C. and once in Havana). She has also spent time at the Department for Exiting the EU, where she was responsible for setting up the team that led on the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement and has been the UK’s Permanent Representative to UNEP and UN Habitat. She is married to Matt Goshko, a U.S. State Department officer. They have two children.

The British High Commissioner in Ottawa is the UK government’s representative in Canada. She is responsible for the direction and work of the High Commission and Consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
